So the benefit of using a steam mop to clean your hard floors is twofold. You can do a perfect job with much less effort and it takes a lot less time. You also get the most hygienic results, steam is the best way to kill bacteria and mold.
A steam mop also means that you don’t need to use any detergent. Not only does this save you money, but it also leaves no residue build-up, nor are there any streaks on your hard floors. Then there’s the question: how much should you pay for a quality steam mop that’s going to be effective at cleaning tile floors and more delicate surfaces like your precious hardwood floors. Is it easy to use? How safe is the machine? After all, scorching steam is not something to be messed with.
Because of its fantastic price, high level of features and specs, and its user-friendly design, we decided that it would be a great idea to review the Bissell 1940 PowerFresh Steam Mop. It must be one of the best products for cleaning hard floors and this means all hard floors. Cleaning tile floors with dirt that can be trapped in the grouting requires a more powerful steam cleaning action than what you’d use to clean your hardwood floor, or for that matter, any wood floor.
If you read the hundreds of customer reviews of the Bissell PowerFresh, you’ll be led to believe that it’s not only one of the best-priced steam mops but is, quite simply, one of the best, period. This product review is going to investigate if this is the case.
Bissell 1940 PowerFresh Steam Cleaner – Review
Without the use of any detergents, the Bissell 1940 PowerFresh will kill 99.9% of all germs. Okay, this is no big deal – we’d expect this from any steam mop. That’s the point of using steam. Though, besides this, the Bissel 1940 has quite a few features that make it more effective as well as being easier and safer to use than most others.
Something many Bissell owners have remarked on as being incredibly useful and convenient is the flip down scrubber. When you encounter a particularly stubborn patch of dirt, it’s super easy to activate the scrubber with your foot. With this feature you boost, your already powerful, steam cleaning power to remove tough dirt like no other mop can. Most people have said that this makes cleaning your hard floors twice as fast as using most other steam mops. I suppose this would depend on how dirty your floors are.
You can control your steam output with a touch control on the handle. For delicate cleaning, say for hardwood floors, there’s a low steam setting. You can also select a medium steam setting or, for seriously dirty tile floors, there’s a high steam setting. Something that some people have complained about is that there is no off switch for the steam. This isn’t true, perhaps the guys at Bissell should do more to inform people of this. The steam power setting toggles by pressing it once for low steam, twice for medium and three times for high. If you press the control a fourth time you can turn the steam off.
The Bissell 1940 has a really great feature, in that you don’t have to pump the steam as you clean. You simply select your steam power setting and move the machine across your hard floors. The water tank is positioned at the top of the mop and unclips very easily, refilling it is absolutely effortless.
The microfiber cleaning pads will give a gentle cleaning action that won’t harm your sealed hardwood floors. In addition to this, you also get two Febreze fragrance discs that will leave your home smelling as fresh as a spring morning.
If you’ve never owned one of these steam mops there are a few things I think I should point out. Firstly, you should never use regular tap water with the Bissell 1940 PowerFresh, always use distilled or filtered water. Another important tip is not to use any detergent in the tank. The steam gives you all the cleaning power you need for any hard floor, even hardwood floors with grooves or cracks.
Normally, I would end the review by saying: for its price, the Bissell 1940 Powerfresh is a brilliant steam mop. Forget that price. Sure, it is exceptionally cheap but it’s a fantastic machine regardless of this fact. The Bissell 1940 beats the socks off steam mops that cost way more. I think we can agree with the customer reviews that have rated this machine so highly – it’s fantastic. You also get a 2-year warranty with the product and the service that you’d expect from an established brand.
