If you’ve given up on home carpet cleaners (or carpet shampooers, if you prefer), the Bissell ProHeat Revolution Pet Pro might just change your mind. Before setting about writing this review, I checked up on many user experiences because carpet cleaners aren’t always that easy to assess. What I can say from the offset is that, almost without exception, people have said that the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution is better than hire machines and even better than getting professional carpet cleaners in.
I know that many of us dislike carpet cleaners or shampooers because they can be a hassle to clean afterward. It almost seems like a double job, first you have to spend hours cleaning your carpets and then you have to clean the carpet cleaner itself. Lest you end up with a machine that smells of mildew.
I suggest that you read this comprehensive review of the Bissell ProHeat Revolution before you make your decision. As always, we’ll point out everything there is to know about this machine – the pros and cons. Only this time, there really aren’t any real cons to point out, except maybe, the price – the Bissell ProHeat Revolution is by no means cheap. Then again, it is the premier carpet cleaner in the Bissell range and is, without a doubt, a truly magnificent machine. Well, it’s actually the second from the top of the range but for what most people are looking for the Bissel ProHeat (1986 model number) is just as good as their top of the line ProHeat Lift-Off (15651 model).
The first thing anyone would want to know is how does the Bissell ProHeat Revolution perform? When used in conjunction with the recommended Bissell cleaning formulae, this carpet cleaner comes up tops – it cleans thoroughly, removes odors (and I mean all odors) and leaves your carpets looking great. There’s no color fading or anything like that, the carpets are left looking bright and vibrant. It’s probably a good idea to touch on the topic of the Bissell formulas and shampoos. I see that critics of the Bissell range feel that they’re using the carpet cleaner as a way to sell their cleaning products – these being the various carpet shampoos that offer.
I wouldn’t say that you have to use the Bissell cleaning formulae with their carpet cleaners, but it’s worth it. These cleaning products aren’t necessarily more expensive than any of the best carpet cleaning formulae and they really work. When you buy the Bissell ProHeat Revolution Pet Stain and Odor Removal Bundle (it costs about $20 extra), you get a bottle of Bissell Professional Pet Urine Eliminator + Oxy formula, as well as a bottle of Antibacterial formula with your purchase. This way you can try them out and see why people with pets prefer to go with the Bissell range. According to Bissell, the Pet Urine Eliminator will even remove skunk odor. I haven’t had the chance to test this claim and certainly hope I never do.
The secret to the cleaning power of the Bissell ProHeat Revolution goes way beyond the magic cleaning formula, however. The DirtLifter Power brushes do an incredible job of working the carpet shampoo deep into the fibers of your carpets and then lift the debris clean away, sucking it into the collection tank. When you encounter a spot of stubborn dirt or a stain, there’s the CleanShot Pretreater function that sprays a concentrated burst of heated detergent directly onto the spot. You then move the Bissell back and forth over the stain until it completely disappears.
The Bissell ProHeat Revolution also comes with a 2-in-1 wet or dry pet upholstery tool. When used as a dry vacuum cleaner, it will lift away pet hair and other dirt from your upholstery and it can also be used as a wet cleaner to clean the upholstery perfectly. The carpet cleaning head is really flat and this allows you to reach under the edges of your bed and other furniture – yet another bonus. The Bissell ProHeat Revolution isn’t all that heavy, though some people say that they would have preferred a lighter machine. Personally, I don’t see the 20-pound weight as a big issue.
You have the option of choosing a deep cleaning mode that will outperform even the most sophisticated rental carpet cleaners. If you prefer to have your carpets dry within the hour, there’s an express clean mode. The guys at Bissell say that your carpets will dry in an hour using this function, but that will depend a lot on the ambient conditions. I suspect this claim is for a best-case scenario – dry hot weather. In cold or humid conditions, I doubt that your carpets will dry that quickly, but it’s going to take less time than most other carpet cleaners.
Now for the bane of carpet cleaners, cleaning the actual machine. This could be where Bissell really wins the prize. The cleaning brush cover is really easy to remove. This means that you have instant access to the brush and the inside of the cover. You’ll clean the machine in a matter of minutes. They also provide a brush which makes it even quicker and easier to clean the Bissell.
I think that after reading this review, you’ll probably agree that the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro 1986 carpet cleaner is a worthy investment – especially for pet owners. I’m not going to harp on about Bissell quality, I think that the brand speaks for itself and this machine comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
