In this review of the Shark Rocket Corded Hand Vac HV292, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this model of hand vacuum cleaner.
Pros of the Shark Rocket Model HV292
This hand-held vacuum is 30% cheaper than the upright Shark Rocket.
It doesn’t lose suction until the dirt cup is almost full. Suction otherwise is average.
The filter is washable, reducing the cost of consumables to keep using it.
It has a good, flexible hose attachment. It comes with a crevice tool and dusting brush that fit on the hose.
Most of the tools can be attached to either the nozzle on the vacuum directly or the end of the hose. However, there is no way to organize the tools.
This vacuum comes with a motorized brush that can remove pet hair from the couch. And the pet brush is easy to install. In fact, the entire vacuum is simple to assemble.
A micro-vacuum attachment kit for cleaning those fine grooves in the furniture, cracks in the floor or nooks and crannies in the living room is available and costs less than twenty dollars. Note that not all micro-attachment kits available online for Shark vacuums actually fit the Shark Rocket model HV292.
At five pounds plus attachments and dirt in the unit, it can get heavy after a while, but it is still one of the lighter handheld vacuums on the market.
The large dust cup is easy to empty. And unlike some competitors, it doesn’t generate a cloud of dust when you empty it.
The unit has good enough suction to clean stairs.
Cons of the Shark Rocket Model HV292
The hose on this model doesn’t fit the Shark Rocket upright, so you can’t share accessories between them. If you want a long wand that lets it reach the floor, it isn’t cheap and hard to find. It doesn’t work with the under appliance wand sold for other Rocket vacuums.
The manufacturer says the filter can be washed and re-used repeatedly, but its effectiveness goes down with each washing. Not every vendor that sells the handheld Shark Rocket model sells replacement filters for it.
The handle is at the end of the vacuum, which can aggravate repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome if you use it for more than occasional spot cleaning.
Observations Regarding the Shark Rocket
It comes with a fifteen food power cord that may or may not be enough to let you plug it in at the wall outlet and clean the whole room, but this is better for deep cleaning the living room than the upright cordless vacuums that have their batteries go dead within thirty minutes. You can use an extension cord with it. It has a four and a half inch cleaning path, par the course for cordless vacuums.
Take the time to let the filter air dry after you clean it or you’ll have mold and mildew growing on it.
It doesn’t have a retractable cord, but you can wrap the cord around the vacuum.
Summary
This is an affordable, versatile hand held vacuum cleaner by Shark. You can use it to remove modest amounts of cat hair, small spills and dust anywhere within arm’s reach using this vacuum.
