The Bissell Garage Pro wet/dry vacuum cleaner, model 18P03, is an affordable and versatile wet and dry mess vacuum cleaner. What are the pros and cons of this vacuum cleaner?
Pros of the Bissell Garage Pro Model 18P03 Vacuum
This wet dry vacuum can be wall mounted to save space or placed on the floor. It comes with a wall mounting kit and is easy to mount. You’ll typically want to wall mount it since the vacuum doesn’t have wheels on the bottom of the body. The power cord itself is short, but you can attach an extension cord. This issue is moot, though, if you mount it to the wall in a central location and leave it there.
You can use this versatile garage vacuum cleaner as a blower, too. Note, though, that when you use it as a blower, anything else that was in the hose will blow out – so clear out the hose before you start using this vacuum as a blower like blowing it into a trash bag before assuming switching it to blower mode will actually clean the work space you want clean.
It comes with a long hose you can use to clean the workbench or detail most of the car without having to take it off its wall mount. Note that when you use the hose, the suction is reduced by about a third because the motor has to not just pull the air but do so over a great distance.
It has a high capacity four gallon tank. The tank is semi-translucent so you can see how far it has filled up.
This wet dry vacuum cleaner costs around $200 at full price but can be found on sale for as little as $150.
This vacuum comes with seven different tools, including several extension wands, a crevice tool, general flat heads and detailing tools.
Cons of the Bissell Garage Pro Model 18P03 Vacuum
The hose is advertised as stretching as far as 32’ but usually reaches just 25’.
It loses suction relatively fast as the tank and hose fill up with pet hair. It doesn’t handle sand or leaves well. It works fine with sawdust, workbench debris and food crumbs in and around your car seat.
The connection port is about 2” wide but the hose reduces down to just over an inch across, partially to reduce the strain on the motor and partially to be able to maintain suction over a great distance. This means the hose doesn’t fit many other Bissell cleaning tools aside from what comes with the vacuum cleaner, and you can only buy replacement hoses for this wet dry vacuum from the manufacturer.
Bissell offers a warranty for the vacuums, but the warranty only covers work done at an authorized repair center – and there may not be one in your area. If the authorized repair center says the repair costs more than what Bissell covers, you may have to pay the difference in order to have the work done at all.
If the vacuum was used in a commercial environment, the warranty will be voided.
Its noise level is average for a wet dry vacuum.
This wet / dry vacuum cleaner is bagless. This can be a plus if you don’t like the cost and hassle of bags, but it can be a negative if you have to clean the vacuum cleaner out after cleaning up where the baby or dog got sick in the car.
The filters in this vacuum cleaner need to be replaced periodically. If you are cleaning up wet or gooey messes, the filters need to be changed out more often. You’ll be able to tell when it is time because the suction will be reduced.
This is a medium grade but affordable wet/dry vacuum cleaner. It lets you clean both your workshop and car with relative ease. It is easiest to use if you mount to the wall and leave it there. It handles almost any type of mess barring large liquid spills and the heaviest debris.
