Bissell SpinWave 2039A Vs Bissell PowerFresh 1940 – Which is the Better Mop?

Having taken an in-depth look at the wide range of Bissell electric floor mops, I can say that they are all impressive machines. Not only do Bissell mops come at an incredibly reasonable price, but they offer you a lot of value for your money. In this regard, the Bissell SpinWave 2039A and PowerFresh 1940 mops, are probably the best. They’re both priced at around a hundred dollars and each has their own set of pretty amazing features.

Steam Mops for Hard Floors

Choosing between the two can be a tough call. So, answering the question, which is best, is not as simple as it may seem. I can give you my opinion and that would be that I prefer the steam cleaning power of the Bissell Powerfresh 1940. Though not everyone will agree and I would think that the Bissell SpinWave might be preferable for people who want to get the job done in the least amount of time. The SpinWave mop doesn’t have a water heater. It takes some time for the Bissell PowerFresh to turn the water into steam.

In the end, you will be making your choice and that will depend on your individual needs. So we’re giving you a comparative review, pitting the Bissell SpinWave against the Bissell PowerFresh.

Similarities Between the Bissell PowerFresh and Bissell Spinwave

I’ll start by pointing out what they have in common and then look at each model separately.

They are both designed to give you superior cleaning power for any hard floor. A tile floor will usually need a more powerful cleaning action than a sealed hardwood floor. A tile floor can require much more scrubbing and when using steam, the tile floor can handle more intensity. A hardwood floor, on the other hand, requires a more gentle approach and you want to avoid scratching it at all costs or harming the wood in any way. Both machines can adapt easily to any hard floor, not just tile or hardwood but any wooden floor (including laminates), and vinyl, stone or linoleum floors will all get the same great results as hardwood and tile floors.

Both these mops are designed for really easy use. They’re lightweight, with a compact stick design. Furthermore, they both have very slim swivel cleaning heads and this makes them both perfect for getting into places where bulkier mops simply won’t.

Both the Bissell SpinWave and the Bissell PowerFresh are high-quality mops with the backing of a respected brand. To this end, they both have a 2-year warranty, good service backup and it’s easy to get the accessories that you need.

So that’s the common ground that makes both these mops worth looking into. Now it’s time to see what sets them apart from one another.

Differences Between the SpinWave and PowerFresh

BISSELL SpinWave Hard Floor Mop, 2039A

  • The Bissell SpinWave has all the traits that you’d expect from a conventional electric mop that uses spinning discs to clean and polish. It stands out from the crowd in its very slim design which makes it much easier to use and will clean areas where many others can’t.
  • Although the Bissell SpinWave is a lightweight mop, weighing 9.5 LBS, it’s nowhere nearly as light as the PowerFresh. So it’s not a winner in the weight department, though you really can’t complain about its weight.
  • You get two sets of counter-rotating pads for the Bissell SpinWave. “Scrubby pads” take the effort out of removing stubborn dirt from any hard floor, while the soft touch pads are ideal for gently cleaning and polishing all hard floors. I think the soft rotating pads are better at polishing hardwood floors than the steam cleaning of the PowerFresh.
  • The Bissell SpinWave 2039A model is one of the easiest and most convenient mops to use. It has a removable detergent tank that unclips with a touch. You have perfect control over how much detergent you use, thanks to the trigger control at your fingertips. Bissell also offers a range of cleaning solutions that are made for the best results on different hard floor types, this includes a detergent formulated specifically for hardwood floors.

In conclusion, we can deduce that the Bissell SpinWave has the advantage of the interchangeable pads that rotate. This means that this mop will do the best job of buffing your floors to a perfect shine. If you have hardwood floors, the superior polishing action of the Bissell SpinWave could make it your preferred choice. You notice the shine on a hardwood floor much more than would on a tile floor.

Bissell 1940 PowerFresh Steam Mop

  • The Bissell PowerFresh is a very different appliance to the SpinWave, in that it’s a powerful steam cleaner mop. It, too, has many features that make it stand out in this category of home cleaning equipment. This being it’s sleek and lightweight design that makes it extremely versatile for all areas of the home and it has a few other advantages over most steam cleaning mops.
  • I mentioned earlier that the Bissel PowerFresh is much lighter than the SpinWave. Just how much lighter? Almost a third of the weight – the Bissel PowerFresh weighs only 3.8 LBS. Its biggest advantage, however, is in the power of steam that kills 99.9% of all bacteria in the home. Another advantage of steam is that it removes mold and stubborn dirt in the grout between your tiles, as well as the gaps and cracks in wooden floors.
  • The Bissell PowerFresh also uses Febreez scented pads that leave your home smelling fragrantly fresh. The built in flip-down scrubber is something that you won’t find on most other steam mops and this makes it much easier to clean really tough dirt. The microfiber pads are good for polishing hardwood floors, but can’t really compare to the polishing action of the SpinWave. The advantage of these pads is that they aid the, already superior, antibacterial properties of steam cleaning.
  • The downside to the Bissel PowerFresh 1940 model is that it doesn’t have a built-in water filter. This means that you have to use distilled or purified water – you can’t use ordinary tap water. On the plus side, you don’t need to use any detergent – the steam does all the cleaning and is, actually, more effective and hygienic than any cleaning solvent.
  • Another advantage of using the Bissell PowerFresh is its variable steam settings. You can set it electronically for low, medium or high steam depending on your floor type. Low steam is better for hardwood floors, high steam is better for tiles and medium gives a good middle ground for most other hard floors. You also don’t have to pump the steam like most other floor mops that use steam.
  • If you don’t mind waiting a few minutes for the Bissell PowerFresh to heat the water, it’s really the better of the two when it comes to the most effective and hygienic cleaning power. Though, probably less effective at polishing.

Conclusion

I’ve already expressed my opinion as to which is the best mop. In order to be fair to both, I should sum things up by pointing where each has their own advantages.

The Bissell SpinWave has the advantage of an electric motor that rotates the pads. Of course, this adds to the weight of the mop – but that’s inevitable. If polishing your floors to a perfect shine is very important to you, this one will make your life easier. If you’re using the Bissell PowerFresh on hardwood floors, you’ll probably have to go over the floor a second time with a dry mop to get the same results.

If you want the most hygienic cleaning results, the Bissell PowerFresh is your best option. It will also make your life easier if you have pets or young kids who tend leave a lot more mess – the steam power of the Bissell PowerFresh is very effective at quickly removing the toughest dirt.

For the best of both, you’d have to get both of them. Considering their price, this is not a totally absurd idea.
