In this review of the Vacmaster 4 gallon industrial wet/dry vacuum, model number VF408, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this model. We’ll also discuss details about the model that are not clear pros and cons but may affect the decision of some buyers as to whether or not this is the right high capacity wet/dry vacuum cleaner for them.
Pros of the Vacmaster Model VF408
It comes with a long seven foot hose for cleaning in a car or around a room. This is on top of three separate extension wands to let you clean everywhere you need to. And it has an 18’ cord.
It comes with a variety of cleaning tools like a utility nozzle, dust brush and crevice tool. The vacuum has a tool storage caddy on board of the vacuum cleaner.
The multi-floor nozzle allows it to be used like a standard upright vacuum on both bare floors and carpets. It performs better on bare floors than carpets.
It has a large on/off switch that you don’t have to struggle to find, and it is essentially sealed by dust.
This vacuum is very light given its capacity. It weighs less than twenty pounds empty.
This unit can be taken up stairs because of its carry handle. And it is very maneuverable when you’re pulling it on the floor.
The unit is easy to use. However, switching from dry mode to wet mode is a hassle.
It comes with a two year limited warranty.
The compact design makes it easy to store.
Cons of the Vacmaster Model VF408
The 5 HP peak power is rarely achieved by this model.
While the cord is supposed to be retractable, the retraction device often jams.
The hose gets clogged easily, and it chokes on pet hair. Do not use this wet/dry vacuum on pet hair. If you suck up anything over an inch wide, expect to have to take the hose off to clear it.
Observations
The hose on this vacuum stays securely in place on the vacuum much better than its rivals, and tools stay in place, too. The only exception is the brush attachment that periodically falls off. One of the downsides of this vacuum cleaner is that the wheels sometimes come off.
This wet/dry vacuum does go through consumables, and you have to replace them periodically to maintain suction. The benefit of the air exhaust filters and vacuum bags is that it doesn’t spray dust or an aerosol of whatever you’ve picked up in the vacuum in a trail behind the vacuum. This vacuum cleaner comes with a single vacuum bag and air filter when purchased new.
The 4 gallon capacity is for dry matter. If you are picking up water and other liquids, it will stop at about half full or 2 gallons.
Summary
The Vacmaster model VF408 wet/dry vacuum cleaner has a number of strengths, including low cost, a wide assortment of tools and excellent containment of debris inside the vacuum cleaner.
